Today is another continuation of the lesson behind gun violence. The class was given a worksheet to fill out that deals with root causes behind gun violence. These include but are not limited to lack of education, racism and class status. I had the opportunity to sit in the 10th grade class for an hour today. They were giving presentations about root causes for homelessness. The first presentation focused on gentrification in Philadelphia, and how this causes people to be kicked out of their homes due to price increase. The other presentation was about the LGBTQ community and how parents might kick them out because of their lifestyle. These were group presentations that lasted about 30 minutes. Each group focused on a different root cause, so everyone could learn about the different causes. At the end of each presentation, there was a feedback from about how they did.
